As we step into a new year, there’s no better time to pause, reassess, and set intentions for what’s ahead. Goal setting and mindset are the keys to turning dreams into reality—they shape the actions we take and the opportunities we notice. If you’ve ever heard of a vision board, you might think it’s just about gluing pretty pictures to paper.. But it’s really a powerful tool to clarify your goals, train your brain to focus on what matters, and keep your motivation alive. In this post, I’ll show you how to create a vision board that isn’t just inspiring but also strategic and impactful. Plus, you’ll get access to a free worksheet to help you map out your vision and make this your best year yet!
There's Actually Science Behind Vision Boards
Vision boards aren’t just wishful thinking—they’re tools that help you train your brain to focus on your goals. Here’s how it works:
The Reticular Activating System (RAS): This part of your brain acts as a filter, deciding which information gets your attention. By creating a vision board, you’re giving your RAS clear instructions about what’s important to you. The more you see your goals represented visually, the more your brain starts spotting opportunities and resources to make those goals happen.
Visualization Reinforces Belief: Studies have shown that mental imagery activates the same neural pathways as actually performing a task. When you look at your vision board daily, you’re “practicing” success and building confidence that your goals are possible.
Clarity Equals Momentum: When your goals are clear and visually represented, it’s easier to stay motivated and take actionable steps.
Before Diving in - Reflect on Your Goals
Before grabbing those scissors and magazines, take time to get clear on your vision. It’s essential to reflect on where you’ve been and where you’re going. That’s why I’ve designed the Reflect & Reset Worksheet to guide you through:
Celebrating your wins and identifying what’s most meaningful.
Understanding the limiting beliefs holding you back and reframing them into empowering statements.
Checking in on how you showed up this past year in key areas of your life.
Setting clear, actionable goals for the year ahead.
Painting a vivid picture of your ideal 2024, which you’ll bring to life on your vision board.

How to Create a Vision Board That Works
Ready to bring your dreams into focus? Here’s your step-by-step guide to crafting a vision board that goes beyond pretty pictures.
1. Decide How You’ll Create Your Vision Board
You can create a vision board in many ways, depending on your style and resources. Here are a few options:
Old School & Hands-On: Gather magazines, scissors, glue, and a poster board. Cut out pictures, words, or quotes that resonate with your goals.
Print Your Own: Search online for images that match your vision. Print them out and arrange them on a board.
Digital Vision Board: Use tools like Canva to create a digital version of your board. You can download it as a desktop wallpaper or phone lock screen.
Pinterest Board: Create a dedicated board on Pinterest for your goals. If you have a widget-enabled phone, add your Pinterest board to your home screen for daily inspiration.
(Tip: Whichever method you choose, the key is to make it something you’ll look at often.)
2. Divide Your Vision Board into Categories
To keep your board organized and meaningful, divide it into sections that represent different areas of your life. For example:
Business/Career: What does success look like? Is it landing a big client, growing your revenue, or launching a new project?
Health/Wellness: Are you envisioning a more active lifestyle, better mental health, or prioritizing self-care?
Relationships: What does your ideal support system look like?
Personal Growth: Are you learning a new skill, overcoming a fear, or stepping into a new version of yourself?
3. Choose the Right Images
Not all images are created equal. Here are some tips for selecting visuals that pack a punch:
Make it Personal: Use images that reflect your goals from a first-person perspective. Instead of a generic picture of a fit person, find one of someone hiking a trail you want to conquer.
Symbolic Power: Don’t limit yourself to literal pictures. A rising sun could represent hope and new beginnings, while a bridge might symbolize overcoming obstacles.
Focus on Steps, Not Just Outcomes: Want to increase your income? Instead of slapping a pile of cash on your board, choose images that represent how you’ll do it—like a laptop if you’re launching a digital product or a picture of a networking event if you plan to grow connections.
4. Make It Visible
Your vision board should be a daily reminder of where you’re headed. Place it where you’ll see it often—on your wall, as your phone wallpaper, or even as your desktop background. The key is to keep your goals top of mind.
Tips for Making It Work
Be Realistic, But Bold: Aim for achievable goals that push you just outside your comfort zone. Break down big dreams into actionable steps.
Add Affirmations: Sprinkle your board with positive statements that support your vision. For example: “I am capable of running a successful business” or “I have the energy to prioritize my health.”
Review and Adjust: Your vision board isn’t set in stone. Revisit it every few months to make sure it still aligns with your goals.
Feel the Emotion: As you look at your vision board, imagine the emotions you’ll feel when those goals become reality. Excitement? Pride? Freedom? Let those feelings fuel your actions.
