Want to Get Personal?

On my Substack, This Might Be a Ramble, I share my messy middle — works in progress, personal stories, and, yes, cat pics. If you like the real, unfiltered stuff, you’ll love it here.

I grew up in the tiny Northern Michigan village of Pellston—yes, village. No stoplights, but somehow we had an airport and a public school (go figure).. That kind of rural upbringing teaches you to be resourceful, independent, and maybe a little stubborn. I learned early on how to make something out of nothing and figure it out—and that mindset is still the backbone of everything I do.

I’ve been drawing and creating for as long as I can remember, and by the time I was choosing a career path, design and illustration had my whole heart. So in my early 20s, I packed my bags and moved to Southeast Michigan to chase the dream.

From Designer to Brand Builder

My career path has been anything but straight. I’ve been:

  • A librarian (yes, I still have a soft spot for the Dewey Decimal System)

  • A short-lived tattoo apprentice (turns out no one wants a shaky tattoo artist)

  • The owner of a paint-and-sip business, teaching very enthusiastic and tipsy students

All while freelancing and quietly building my skills behind the scenes.

Eventually, I landed my first big design job at a screenprinting company, then dove into the cannabis industry, where I worked my way up to creative director for one of Michigan’s top retailers. That experience gave me the confidence to go all in on my own business—and in late 2023, Brand Storey Studio was born.

Why I do what I do

After years in corporate marketing, I watched the standard agency model chew through good designers and marketing teams—burnout, endless revisions, bloated timelines, and clients who felt just as frustrated as the creatives. I’ve been on both sides of that grind, and I knew I wanted to do things differently.

I’m a rebel at heart, and I believe branding doesn’t have to be a drawn-out, soul-sucking process that makes everyone involved want to throw themselves on shattered glass to be good. That’s why I created a model that’s fast, collaborative, and refreshingly straightforward.

I help emerging CPG brands — snacks, beverages, pet products, wellness goods, and the retailers that sell them — get retail-ready fast. We’re talking bold branding, irresistible packaging, and a strategy that gets products noticed on shelves and online.

Every project starts with the Full-Shelf Audit — a strategic deep-dive that shows exactly where your brand stands now, what’s working, and where the opportunities are to level up. From there, we bring it to life through one of my Brand Intensives, a focused, fast-track experience that gets you from “idea” to “launch-ready” in just 1–3 days of your time.

Easy peasy.

What I’m Known For

  • Fast & Focused Intensives — No endless back-and-forth, just bold, market-ready branding in days, not months.

  • Full-Shelf Audits — Action-packed brand reviews that give clients total clarity on what’s working, what’s missing, and where to go next.

  • Packaging That Sells — Because you can have the best product in the world, but if the packaging doesn’t grab attention, it won’t get picked up.

Beyond the Work

I’m a Northern Michigan girl at heart, now based in Southeast Michigan, working with clients across the country.

Most days, you can find me hanging out with my husband, Caleb, and our “house horse” — Gus, our 130lb Irish Wolfhound mix — along with our two cats. I love playing D&D with friends, making art, and working on my own product lines. When I’m not creating, I’m usually browsing the aisles to scope out packaging trends, tinkering with new creative tools (yes, even AI), or heading north for a little lake time and fresh air.
